Fever 1793 Compare And Contrast

Improved Essays
Compare and Contrast Essay There are two different books, Fever 1793 and The Girl Who Owned A City, with main characters. I will be comparing those main characters, Mattie and Lisa. Lisa and Mattie are similar in many ways. They both have had loved ones die. Lisa and Mattie helped others and at the end of the book they have turned into adults. They have suffered through illnesses of other people. Lisa and Mattie both have a goal in life and are determined to achieve it. They also are different. Lisa has a younger sibling. Mattie does not. Lisa is from a modern time of day and Mattie is from the 1700’s. Lisa has multiple children to take care of. Mattie (at the end of book) has to take care of Nell.

They achieved that goal very well. Lisa and Mattie are very persistent to achieve that goal. In The Girl Who Owned A City Lisa has a younger sibling. Mattie doesn't have and younger siblings.
Mattie has to take care of grandfather and Nell. Lisa also has to take care of many other children as well as her brother. They both devised a plan to take care of the younger children. They achieved it well. This is a quote from The Girl Who Owned A City: “At first we take in kids we already know.” This is part of Mattie's plan with the kids she has to take in.
Since Mattie is from the 1700’s she is faced with robbers not gangs. “A footstep. A heavy footstep by the window.” That was a quote from Fever 1793, it was when the robbers came into the coffee shop. Lisa has to deal with the Chidester gang. “It was different when the Chidester gang finally tried to take us on.” That quote was when the Chidester gang was attacking the school.
Both Mattie and Lisa are similar and different in many ways. These are just some of the ways they are similar and different. This is a good theme for Lisa and Mattie: “Having things is something but not everything. Earning what you value in life is not just something, it's

While the story” Fences” by August Wilson and” Oedipus the king “ by Sophocles I notice that there a lot of different and similarity in the story. There were several similarities, differences I saw like the tension between the characters, how the characters relate to one and other. To let you see how both story compare to each other. Fences are about a man name troy who is garbage collector was living in a time where there was so much discrimination and how he wanted something to be done about. One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia was a novel that I found myself having a hard time connecting to on a personal level. Delphine, Vonetta, and Fern are three young African American girls that are being sent to spend time with their mother that left them when they were very young. During their time with their mother, they go to a center and a summer camp where they learn about and get involved with the Black Panther Movement. Dealing with being an outsider when thrown into the life and social status of their absent mother and learning, facing, and experiencing racial discrimination; it was not easy for me to relate to these girls and their story.…

During the 1930’s there was a case of white people against black boys in the town of Paint Rock, AL (Ransdall).” This case was known as The Scottsboro Trials. A novel written by Harper Lee titled To Kill a Mockingbird has a similar plot in which a black man, or Negro, was accused of raping a white woman (Lee). Both of these stories have similarities and parallels that are interesting to indulge in. The social characteristics, stigmas, and opinions if superiority influence the behaviors and decisions of those involved in both trials.…

The novel I chose for this assignment was A Northern Light, written by Jennifer Donnelly. Overall, I would say I enjoyed this read, my favorite part of this novel was following the relationships between the main character, Matilda or kindly referred to as Mattie with her father, her town, and her friends. I would recommend this novel to readers who enjoys a romantic storyline based off a true events and/or enjoys reading about crime. A Northern Light, follows the life of Mattie Gokey and her struggle to decide what she should do with her life. The main struggle she faces is the decision to go to college, which would be a first in her family, or to stay at home and fill in the role of her late mother.…
