All living beings on this planet revolve around the idea of thinking. There are endless possiblities to what we can think. It is only plausible that one day, we will ask ourselves- "what is a personal legend?," as well as "What is my personal legend?" In the captivating novel, "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho,a shepher boy named Santiago, succeeds in taking his journey to self- discovery by pursuing and living his prsonal legend. When attaining his personal legend, he meets moments of doubt, perserverance, and guidance. Significant and essential events leading Santiago on his journey, was his encounter with the Old King of Salem, working for a crystal merchant in a crystal shop, discovering the love of his life and his acquaintance with the alchemist. Proceeding through the many obstacles in his journey, the boy learns of himself, as well as the soul of the world. Santiago has been living his life as a simple shepherd boy with a liking for a merchant's daughter. However, he had a dream. In his dream, there was a child playing with his sheep, who suddenly transported him to the Egyptian Pyramids and told him that there, he will find a hidden treasure. To do so, he goes to work for a Crystal merchant. When working, the boy creates several ideas that could help the crystal merchant earn more money faster. This event is claimed as the stepping stone to his next major influence. When finally making enough money to buy a return ticket, the boy leaves and heads off to his next destination without bidding farewell to the merchant in spite of getting too emotional. When wanting to return to his sheep and fields, the boy thought of the Old King's wise words and decided to continue on his only chance to go to Egypt.
