Register to read the introduction… Food was seen as a gift during the war because it was in such high demand. Salva was extremly lucky to have encountered a memeber of the group who happend to follow a bird to their souce of nutrients. A bees nest. Their technquie of getting the bes out of the nest wasnt eaxactly the smartest but they had to do what they ever it took to get the one thing they desperattly yearned for." It was worth it, Salva thought as he touched his eye gingerly." Even though Salva has been stung by multiple bees, he was still able to enjoy the honey that was given to him because he needed food for energy . Not only was food sought after but so was water. When Salva arrived in an area in the desert he saw that there were multiple men who were dead and that the few survivers were barely alive. It was very noticable that they wre in desperate need for water so saving those men was hghly unlikey. Althought a women had offered them water. Another quote from the text is, "If you give them water, you will not have enough for yourself!."(56) This goes to show that water wasn't easy to obtain as they were traveling in the desert. No one wanted to offer water to the dying men because they all needed it. Humans were also a physical resource in terms of Salva's journey. The soldirs were chaing them towards the Gilo river nd Salva had to escape as soon as possible. But as he was crossing the deadly river, a boy had latchd onto salva causing him to dodge th bullet as the poor boy took it for him. " Stunned, salva realized that being forced down the water had probably saved his life" (78,79) While crossing the Gilo river the soldiers were shooting at the people going across it to speed up the process. If it wasn't for the boy grasping on to salva, he probably would've been shot and killed. Physical resources contributed to Salva's survival greatly as it offered him many

Paul narrates the story how the war was not a glamorous life and how horrifying it was to be living the life of a soldier in World War I. The horrors of the war had become much of a normal routine to him that when almost half of his company was killed with the same indifference, it represents his descriptions of horrific events in a detached and almost uncaring way. The other characters are also sharing this desensitisation. The soldiers which survived are more worried about whether they will get enough to eat than with the deaths of their friends and other soldiers. The cooks main concern isn't about the other 70 men which have been injured or killed but whether or not he should serve out the remaining rations to the remaining survivors.…

We were all miffed and were of the opinion that now the American Army was showing its true face. Since the war was over and the Americans had their soldiers back from German captivity, we felt that perhaps we were now being punished for the concentration camps. To a large extent, however, the food shortage was offset by the actions of Captain [Robert L.] Everett and the professional culinary skills of our own cooks. According to rumor, Capt. Everett had connections with Army kitchen personnel and was able bring more food into the stockade than was authorized.…

At the beginning of chapter 9, in the novel “A Long Walk To Water” the author’s tone when walking in a desert is simply revealed to be rejection. Firstly, the author quotes of the text that “Each minute of walking in that arid heat felt like an hour,” in which it means that it felt you’re boiling, and also felt like you’re striding an hour when walking in a desert. This shows, that the author is despising the “walking for an hour” in a desert, and the heat waves that carry on to it. Secondly, the author says that “Even breathing became an effort” in which it means, that it felt hard to breathe, due to extremely high temperature, when walking in a desert. This proves, that the author is telling, the readers (in a more imagery way),…
