College Expectations
Ever since I was a child, I’ve always known that I was going to get a college education. Though I unsure of what I wanted to do with my life as a kid, my parents always encouraged me to become more aware of the different things I could do if I were to get a college education. My parents, along with other family members and friends, helped me look over various professions throughout my teen years to try and help me figure out what it was, or is, that I want to major in college. Growing up with parents that didn’t have the chance to go to high school, I was determined to make them proud, and make the journey and all the sacrifices they made worth it. My parents have worked so hard to give me all I need to be successful, and all I’ve ever wanted to do is repay them. In order to repay them for all they have done, I knew that I needed to get a college education to get a better paying job so they won’t have to work so hard as they got older. These were the main factors that contributed to my decision of going to college.
As a freshman in the “home” school at Sylmar High School I didn’t receive much insight as to what I should be preparing for so I could be a successful high school and college student. There was really no guidance from my counselor or any of the teachers I had. There was nothing being done, so I decided to enroll myself into the magnet program at the school and got in right away.
