I want to give back. I have noticed a lot of my schoolmates think math as their worst nightmare. It is interesting to me because I think math is all about finding patterns, and applying numbers and correct formulas to examine these patterns. As a result, I would like to become a math teacher, and to inspire people and change their negative mindset about math. On the other hand, Sarah wants to be an English teacher because she was inspired by the students she worked with when she was doing a teaching internship with Breakthrough Houston, a summer school writing program for 9th grade students. She believes that every kid deserves the best education we can possibly provide to them. She is strongly motivated by the students she has taught, the progress she has seen them make, and the way that they learned shapes their lives. Her goal for this career is to serve underserved student populations who are not getting adequate or fair education opportunities. Sarah believes that everything she learns from school can be helpful in the future even if some things do not seem to relate to her career. For example, she thinks going to Architecture school has taught her to think in multiple dimensions and at different scales. So even though she is planning to become an English teacher, the strategies she learned from Architecture classes can still help her to find different ways to approach to the different tasks she may encounter in her career and her life. Another common concern among most college students is trying to balance between school and family, and it is tough for Sarah too. She had tried several ways before, some worked and some did not.
