Should Students Prepare For College Essay

Decent Essays
School is an important thing in life, and sometimes it’s a difficult thing for many students. They do not feel like they can afford to go, have the finances to go, or even whether they feel ready to go. Everyone deserves a chance to be able to go to college and feel they are ready for the next step in their education. Sometimes all that is needed is a little push from people in the student’s life. Having someone supporting them and helping them prepare for college is one of the best things someone can do for a student.

Teachers are the ones who sees the potential in their students. They know what to do to make this potential blossom. Also, they see students who just need a little push and can give that to them to make them succeed. Teachers often become mentors when a student is trying to figure out the new world of college. There is nothing like a teacher seeing greatness and encouraging to make the student push even harder because they know that someone believes in them. Teachers also know how to give the advice a student needs to hear to know that they can do this. Teachers were once in the students’ position; the parents were not necessarily. Just about every student has that one teacher that was a huge part of their life and made such an impact on how they continued their education.

Other students and friends can help as well. Friends who are older and have already went down this path will have valuable advice. They know the fears, the worries, and know how to navigate through it. They become mentors. If the students have questions about things like applications, possible majors, schools, books, types of classes to take, and advice in general, those who have already gone through the process will understand and be able to help them through it with less fear than if they were going in all by themselves

The purpose of college, this question can be answered in many different ways. The purpose of college for some people might be to get a degree and move on into the next chapter in life, but I feel that college should be more than that. The best college students learn very quickly that the best thing that they can do is never give up, discover something new every day, work with the community as best as they can and show great respect for the learning community. They also learn that service to the community is essential and they do this by helping others and making them stronger learners. Although Bain’s book does a very good job of explaining all of these values, the one that stands out to me is that of discovery. Discovery stands out because in order to learn you must find/discover something new every day in order to be the best learner that you can be. Stories that Exemplify Discovery…

As a young person, choosing what to study is one of the hardest decision you have to make. According to a Washington Post article, “What’s the purpose of college: A job or an education?” by Jeffrey J. Selingo, learning and getting more knowledge about the world used to be a purpose of higher education, but nowadays it switched to getting a job after graduation rather than gaining more knowledge. Education is the most important factor in order to be successful, but lots of people are in college because their parents want them to, while others think that college is the next destination they have to go through after high school. To me, college is the place that teaches us how to think, how to analyze things thoroughly and to pursue a good career…
