Classroom Management is a set of skills and techniques used by teachers to keep a classroom organized, on task, and engaged. As a future educator, it is highly important to be aware of the importance in constructing a classroom with effective classroom management strategies. Many research studies show that a difficulty faced by many first year teachers is classroom management (Dugas, 2016). Classroom management techniques are supposed to minimize disruptive behavior in order to maximize classroom learning. Classroom management strategies help create a productive and engaging classroom (Classroom Management Definition, 2014). The purpose of this paper is to explore the effective classroom management techniques which include creating a positive classroom environment, using an authoritative approach, and establishing routines. Data sources include reviews of related literature, classroom observations, interviews, and personal experience.
Based on a study results showed that “effective teachers organize their physical classroom environment …; develop and explicitly teach daily classroom routines …; and create a predictable schedule across days, weeks, and other activities” (Magsuga-Gage, Simonsen, & Briere, 2012, p. 2). One effective classroom management technique is developing a positive classroom environment. The students should feel safe and welcomed in the classroom.
