Ineffective Classroom Observation

While observing in Beth Johnston’s First Grade classroom at Eugene Field Elementary School, I have noticed some effective and ineffective classroom management practices that she uses while I have been in the classroom. One effective classroom management technique that I have observed is that Mrs. Johnston puts her student’s desks into groups of three or four. This is an effective technique because she puts her strong students with her not as strong students, which can help with the students who might need a little help staying on track with the lesson that they are supposed to get done. Also, Mrs. Johnston has changed the groups a couple of times since I have been observing in the classroom. This I believe is effective because the students …show more content…
Johnston establishes control over her classroom. For example, when a student speaks out of turn once instead of telling them that they need to be quiet, Mrs. Johnston tells them to keep it in their head with a rather harsh tone. I believe that this is not an effective classroom management technique because, the students in the classroom are in first grade there for they are rather young and still trying to figure out how to behave in classrooms. While I have been observing there has been numerous times that while Mrs. Johnston has been trying to do a lesson and she picks on students to answer questions, the students have no idea what has been going on or even what they needed to of said. For example, the class was going over what three characteristics a sentence needed in order to be a sentence.     I arrived at Easton School District’s Forks Elementary School at around 8:45 a.m. that morning, a few minutes before the children were let in for class, to observe a 4th grade classroom.
