In this paper, I will be pretending to be the CEO of Chipotle and I will be discussing what ethics and social responsibility in business really are as it relates to the company I have chosen. Ethics and social responsibility are almost identical and share a close proximity. Ethics refers to a series of beliefs about what is suitable and unsuitable as far as the company’s standards are concerned. Comparably, Social responsibly is the commitment of a business to influence the public. The most socially responsible businesses present proactive guidelines that center around meeting the needs of all stakeholders, not just employees, customers, the broader communities and the environment. These guidelines are the viewpoint of companies regarding social responsibilities and are found in the company’s code of conduct policies which clearly influences the decisions of their individual employees. Ethics and social responsibility, are based on corporate performance and organizational core values to improve or maintain the financial performance of companies. Consequently, business ethics involves the function of these concerns in the work environment. Distinctly, ethics pertains to individuals and their daily decision making. Undoubtedly, these decisions that most individuals make can affect the entire company. (Marcella Kelly, 2014) Chipotle has several key areas pertaining to our code of conduct that are significant to our business. These notable factors are the Integrity Statement, Being Professional Anti-Discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Harassment Policies. Our code of conduct has great significance to this business and what our expectations of our employees, Officers, and Board of Directors are. Chipotle is committed to the highest standard of integrity therefore, we possess a strong interconnection between ethics and social responsibility. Chipotle’s code of conduct reflects on the company’s culture and the belief to treat everyone fairly. Therefore, I will make sure no one will be disciplined for reporting misuse of the code of conduct with our open door policy that states so. We encourage people to complain and Chipotle treats each concern confidential so that individuals with concerns will not hesitate to report a complaint about unethical behavior or violations of a code. As a result, this ensures that our employees know they have a right to take action. As stated in our code of conduct, it does not replace good judgement and everyone should demonstrate ethical behavior. For this reason, chipotle does not tolerate sexual harassment, or any type of harassment, or discrimination is strict prohibited. With this type of policy …show more content…
There should be policies posted in breakrooms and training every couple of months to make sure everyone knows the difference between ethnical and unethical behavior. Consequently, by being familiar with the policies, employees will be fully aware of possible repercussions associated with not following certain procedures and behavior. I expect every employee to understand and implement each policy at all times. As a result, the possibly of losing their jobs if they do not follow the rules should weigh heavily upon each employee’s head. Making them more, responsible for their actions and setting a positive example for their coworkers. Furthermore, my company, Chipotle, can move toward being more ethical and socially responsible by adopting organic core values by being more democratic, open, trusting, enterprising.
