They are not supposed to defend themselves, although they are supposed to defend the honor of their families. Independent children on the other hand have their sense of self-worth motivated. They are expected to be able to defend themselves.
Children within the independent group have their parents more expectations especially how they perform in competitions. They are driven to meet the milestones no matter how unrealistic they may be that they themselves set and their parents. Life in an individualistic culture is comprised of competition, goals, and marks of personal achievement that the parent use as bragging rights to their peers and others. The dependent side is they aren’t looking at personal glory but family duties. They aren’t meant to focus on careers and personal achievement s but fulfilling their role in the group especially well.
