Before I begin with my explicit thoughts on breastfeeding, I must be blunt and state that it is my opinion that all women should have the right to choose what is right for them, their family, and their lifestyle when it comes to breastfeeding or bottle feeding. I believe that this is a very personal decision that has no “right” or “wrong” answer. As long as your baby is gaining weight, healthy, and happy, I think that whatever you are doing is perfectly acceptable. First, I will begin with what I classify as the advantages of breastfeeding. The first advantage is that breastfeeding is easy and convenient because the breast is always there and the milk is always warm and ready. This eliminates the hassle of trying to scoop formula into a bottle and then heating so that the temperature is just right. This also leads into the next advantage which is that breastfeeding is relatively inexpensive when compared to the alternative of bottle feeding. With bottle feeding, the parents must purchase bottles, bottle warmer, and formula until the baby is weaned. With breastfeeding, there are some upfront costs of a breast pump and a few bottles, along with storage bags, but this generally end up being extremely less expensive than bottle feeding simply because formula is expensive! Aside from the convenience and the cost, breastfeeding also has several health benefits for the mother. Breastfeeding burns a ton of calories for the mother, so she will lose her baby weight quicker.…
