Shortening of the deadline will not only benefit the client, but also protect the company’s profitability. The client is likely to benefit from a shortened deadline, since he is capable of planning in advance, requesting for any modification and ensuring that all preparations are within the time limit for business commencement. The company is also likely to benefit from a reduced timeline by minimizing on production cost; the longer the period of production the more the cost and vice versa. The production timeline as projected in our initial project is one year i.e. summer 2015. The redefined timeline is supposed to be 8 months. The timeline would also be shorter by at least 6 months, however the production costs may seem higher. It is therefore reasonable to work with this timeline, since it is reasonably dependant on the budget and the type of commercial boat that is required by the client. This decision influenced the success of the company positively. Even though there were challenges such as client complaining over cut corners and a less complex commercial boat, such complaints had been reduced by a quite larger margin since the commercial boat was delivered on time; a standard boat of high quality was presented to the client, and room for redesigning under a less agreeable cost was also put in place. Finally the client gave a positive feedback. The company was also able to …show more content…
An alternate scope, such as re-modifying an already stock boat rather than a custom boat would prove cheaper and hence meet the defined timeframe. A stock boat is one that was originally designed and developed as a new custom boat for a client so as to suit certain defined requirements; these unique designs would later on result to specific solutions for a client. These custom designs are then subsequently presented as stock boat building plans. A custom boat requires the services of an engineer, a longer time frame in the designing process which is approximately 2 months and a proper planning before commencement of the project. More than 80% of the clients are always satisfied with the company boat plans rather than their own custom designs (Bryde, 2005). The client is therefore likely to be attracted by the stock boat rather than his own custom designs. It was therefore necessary to work with a stock a boat rather than a custom boat and hence proved successful since the company was able to present the boat within the defined period and as per the budget. The company was also able to generate profit from the
