Does anyone know the meaning of Boat People? The Columbia Encyclopedia defined that, “Boat people, term used to describe the Indochinese refugees who fled Communist rule after the Vietnam War.” That was me thirty-three years ago. My younger brother and I escaped from Viet Nam together with fifty-four strangers on March 26, 1982, on a little boat that was only big enough for us to sit neatly face to face with our legs folded up to our chest. After four days and five nights, we arrived to Ku Ku camp in Indonesia Island, agitated, ravenous, and exhausted. The bitter sweet memory always reminded me how lucky I was and how fortunate I am now to live in the country that we named “The heaven on earth.” Surviving the boat venture and eighteen months …show more content…

I plan to move closer to my daughter who lives in Washington, DC, but the living cost there, according to the CNN Money Cost of Living Calculator, is about $71, 457. My other two cities of interest are Seattle, Washington and Orlando, Florida, but their living cost also more than my future salary. Seattle is $64,018 and Orlando is $50,506. According to Texas reality check, my annual expenses can be between $33,000 to $50,000, which is less than DC, Seattle, and Orlando. My best choice is settled in Houston, find a weekend job and share a room with someone until I have enough money in savings to buy my own
