Health Benefits of Spinach
Spinach is a green leafy vegetable, from the Amaranthaceae family, with the scientific name spinacia oleraceae. The vegetable originated from the Southern and Central Asia. It is highly beneficial and has a lightly bitter taste. It is used in the making of several dishes.
Spinach are edible and can be consumed raw or cooked. It is used in making salad, soup, stew, casserole, and other side dishes.
Types of Spinach
Basically, there are three types of spinach. But there are also modern variations which dos not have the same texture as the older variations. The older variation types are:
Flat leaf spinach: has a smooth leaf and surfac
Savoy spinach: has wrinkled leaf and surface

The green vegetable has several essential nutrients which helps in promoting a healthy living. Spinach contains potassium, calcium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, iron and vitamins like folates, niacin, vitamin B6, Vitamin C, and vitamin A. It also has riboflavin, thiamin, beta-carotene, chlorophyllin, lutein, etc. Spinach has low fat content. These nutrients found in spinach offers loads of benefits to the health.

Spinach has the ability to slow down cancer formation and growth. This is effective against skin cancer and stomach cancer. Due to the lutein present in spinach, this give it the ability to support good vision. This antioxidants helps to protect the eyes against cataract and macular degeneration. Spinach also contains another powerful antioxidant known as zeaxanthin. Which is also a carotenoid which provides light filtering functions to the eyes. And the vitamin A in spinach promote proper eye function and in maintaining a healthy mucus membrane.

Another health benefits of eating spinach is due to its low fat and calories content which makes it ideal for weigh loss. It has fat soluble fiber which supports better digestion, regulates blood sugar levels, prevents indigestion, and prevents overeating and binge eating.
