Loyalty over Blood Everyone has heard the saying, “blood is thicker than water,” but most people have failed to know the full saying. This part of the quote would make someone believe that people related by blood should be closer than those not. While many may think of this as true, I like to think of the full quote as more accurate, “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb” (Lang). To me, this means that the blood formed between bonds is thicker than just genetics. Blended families are a prime example of this. There are people out there who are under the impression that blended families do not work. In contrast, my blended family helped me grow into a better person because I learned that just because it is not traditional does not mean it is not perfect, also I began to love with an open heart, and I came to the realization that the world does not revolve around me. Having a blended family provided the realization that there is not one definition for the word “special.” When I was ten my life took a sharp turn when my parents announced that they were getting a divorce. I felt like my life was falling apart because I did not have that traditional “mom, dad, and children” family (My mom already had a son when her and my dad married, so I had a half-brother). I thought I was going to have a broken family for the rest of my life. Then when I was 12, my life took its second sharp turn when both of my parents remarried. My dad married a woman with two…
