When I was young, my sister and I never got along well. Neither of us were afraid to voice our thoughts, but we had opposite personalities, so that was an enormous complication. She would constantly whine whenever I practice the violin or piano that I was too loud and it was drowning out the music she was listening to. In return, I would always retort that her music was too loud and distracting. Well, I never actually called it “her music”: I referred to it as “garbage”. This was the beginning of a massive explosion, similar to a volcano. It remains dormant for a while, before erupting and creating chaos. We would scream at each other for what felt like an eternity before we finally could not stand to be near each other and stopped speaking. …show more content…

My sister and I were not exactly delighted when we found out. While our cousin was preoccupied with something on her phone, we quietly worked together, snuck out of the house, and strolled to a nearby park. I could feel the excitement and nervousness flow through my veins. I was jumpy and filled with adrenaline since I knew we were not supposed to sneak out. My mixed emotions were soon forgotten, though, since my sister and I had a blast at the park, and we got along for the first time I could remember. When we returned home, my cousin swooped us into a bear hug, and yelled at us for sneaking out without permission. My sister and I simply smirked at each other. We raced up to my room and burst out laughing. We mimicked our cousin lecturing us, and got along the second time that day. Our parents were in disbelief when they got home after witnessing us play together without arguing. That day, both of us realized that the bond of sisters is more powerful than any petty argument. We both loved each other; we just had some differences to overcome. For example, I made certain that I closed the door when I practiced, instead of trying to play loud just to bother her, and she closed her door and used

A Nominal Sacrifice There I lay, motionless, forced into an agonizing astronomy lesson. Each bright and yellow star did its best to distract me from what felt like a detached right shoulder. Meanwhile, on the cold, milk white ice I lay, utterly confused. I was under attack by pain and her wicked sensation, storming my frail, cold body. I seemed to be split into two, my right half severed from the left, juxtaposed like paper ripped in two.…

Sibling rivalry exists in the majority of households. Often, one sibling feels that the other is being favored by one parent, or both. This can create shaky relationships between brothers and sisters, but it can also bring them closer together. This universal truth is portrayed in both short stories, “The Charmer” by Budge Wilson, and “Forgiveness in Families” by Alice Munroe. The protagonists of both these stories feel that their brothers are being favored by their mothers, and they have to struggle with acceptance.…

In fifth grade I had this teacher named Ms. Gonzalez, who was really into theater, and she was always telling us about her plays. She was full of character, full of creativity, and so much fun to be around! Her and I easily connected in that year, and a few other students had no problem softening up to her as well, but it seemed only a selected few really got to her. When the recess bell rang, Ms. Gonzalez had told me and two other girls to stay after class, and of course I didn’t move from my seat as the kids filed out. I waited patiently as she checked for the two other girls, one of my best friends named Ali and another friend named Alizza.…

The coming of autumn brought with it the amber glow of a dying summer and the chilling frost bitten earth of winter. The trees began to die and shed their orange, yellow, and brown leaves that wisped away in the casual morning air in Central Park, New York City. Finding a job here was pretty difficult for me, considering that I am an immigrate from China. I began my trek through the park thinking of all the application forms for all the office buildings that needed ink sown into the paper. Sighing, I headed to the center of the park.…

My sister and I fought about something stupid, exactly how we always did, but somehow this argument turned into something more, and we ended up not talking for the rest of the week. She hated me, I knew, and growing up I was proud of the sibling rivalry we had, but these days, I was tired of it. The arguing, the yelling, even the eyerolls I gave her sometimes; it was just something I didn’t want anymore. I’m not even sure how the drift between us happened, but there was a continent the size of Pangea between her and I, and there was no way for me to fix it. Five and a half days of not saying a word to each other later, I left to sleep over at my friend’s house for the weekend.…
