The purpose of this paper is to inform people on adoption and how in our world today, children's development is affected by it. Also I will be sharing research with you in the frame of the order of Bronfenbrenner's ecological system model. All of the influence levels of Bronfenbrenner's Ecological System Theory will be referenced in this order beginning with individual, microsystem, mesosystem, exosystem, macrosystem and ending with chronosystem, these all contribute major factors to the adoption of children.
Modern adoptions roots started in the United states (Rowen, 2000-2017). Up until the 1850s informal adoptions were the norm (2000-2017). Rowen explains that and I quote, “In 1851, Massachusetts passed the nation’s first adoption …show more content…
Now the family and the attributes of that family factor into whether the child is approved to be adopted by them. These people who adopt children are going to be the most influential people in the child's life and they chose to adopt a child, so they have to be sure to do everything to the best of their abilities for the child. The child's development will be affected greatly by their experiences and family settings. Majority of couples or singles who adopt children are either older of approximately forty plus years of age. These couples may be married couples who cannot have children of their own (Billadeau, 2014). Some couples who may have been having trouble getting pregnant and decide to adopt result in later being able to get pregnant and have children of their own (Billadeau, 2014). The relationship between children and their adopted siblings in early studies suggested that environment trumped biology among blended siblings (Kreider, R. M., & Lofquist, 2014). The development in children is greatly benefitted being adopted into good homes and being raised in homes where parents seek to do their absolute best with the child. The environment and behavior of parents affects them and hopefully in a positive way. Being an adopted child of course brings many questions to the child when they begin to get older and more curious about where they came from, who their birth parents are etc. (Children's Bureau, 2013).This is normal for most adopted children and in a way it probably helps them understand themselves better. Growing up in a home where there is love and parents who want you, is a huge piece of the puzzle of the development of the child. It molds them into who they are and will become someday. Being adopted into a good family gave them more opportunities that they may not have gotten before
