Bronfenbrenner developed the Ecological Systems theory that gives a foundation as to how a person’s culture, relationships, politics, social interactions, and their life experiences can affect their development from childhood through adulthood(McWhirter et. al., 2017). The Ecological System theory is made up of five different levels of relationship and those levels are the microsystem, mesosystem. Exosystem, microsystem, and the chronosystem (McWhirter et al., 2017). Another tool that can be used to measure the impact on a person is the At-Risk-Tree model. This model uses the a tree broken up into multiple sections with each section representing a portion of the person’s life and the different influences that can put that person at risk and the interventions )that can be used to prevent problems(McWhirter, et al., 2017). This paper is going to walk through how both the Ecological Systems and the At-Risk-Tree can be used to explain how the relationships and exposure the author had growing up influenced them and which risk factors they were exposed to. …show more content…
I grew )up living mainly with my mom, stepdad, and younger sister but also went to my dad’s house often which consisted of my dad, stepmom, and two step-sisters that are both younger. My family is not the typical blended family as my parents remained very close friends even after the divorce and always made sure that the children’s needs came before their own. Per Clinton and Clark (2010), it can be hard for blended families to show love, respect, understanding, or patience with new step parents or siblings. My family made sure that we have these things towards each other and we were not to talk negative about the step parents or siblings. Unlike many other blended families, I did not have to choose between which parent I was going to spend which holiday’s with or who we were going to spend vacation with. Our family has always spent our holiday’s and vacations together, both households. After my parents got a divorce, my dad moved about forty-five minutes from my mom’s house and quickly moved in with my now stepmom and her two children. Going from a traditional family with one sibling to overnight being a blended family with now two more siblings, changed the dynamics of the family which then changed my soil and roots by adding more people into it and changing the environment I was being raised in. Coming from divorced parents, it is a risk factor or the roots of the tree. However, the way
