Students may oppose my assertion by pointing out that they have witnessed the crash between bicycles and automobile at the road intersection and seen the bicyclist get injured. However, it is unreasonable to judge its overall security on campus by listing occasionally accident. Although both bicycles and motor vehicles appear inside and outside campus area, researchers have found that the crashing rate of bicyclists and driver in the campus area is much lower than that outside the campus(Loukaitou-Sideris 199). This could be interpreted by several factors, including the drivers ' propensity to obey traffic laws on the campus, the speed limit, the construction of biking lanes, the safety education in the universities, and even the state laws. Indeed, private vehicle owners are prone to be more careful when driving on campus because more traffic signs are set inside the campus together with the 25mph speed limitation, preventing them from driving too fast or threatening the bicyclists by sharing the path. In addition, biking infrastructures at the universities such as the network of biking lanes and paths is improving in recent years, which protect the bicyclists by separating them from roads and reduce crashing rate up to 50% (Loukaitou-Sideris 200). Thus it strongly proves that biking is a much safer choice on campus, compared with the off campus areas without necessary biking …show more content…
The improvement of biking infrastructures and the encouragement of the universities will persuade more people to choose biking, as they realize its long-term
