Out of concern for school property and student safety, schools sometimes choose to prohibit use of skateboards, scooters, bicycles, and similar devices on campus. Students travelling to and from school, as well as those at school, need to feel and be safe. Bicycles and scooters are a popular means of transport for students, but their safe use requires regulation and management. GPS aims to encourage Glenferrie students and families to adopt safe practices for cycling and scooting when riding to and from school and to promote an awareness among the school community of cycling and scooting as healthy activities for students and as an alternative

Most people think that football is the most prone sport to concussions, but researchers from Northwestern University and Wake Forest University have discovered that it is actually fourth on the list, behind girls soccer, girls volleyball, and girls basketball. Would it be good to have guns on school grounds? If you answered ¨yes¨ then you should reconsider. Why would you let a teacher bring a weapon on school grounds? Knowing full well that they could possibly kill at ten or more students? It would be another Columbine Massacre!…

How many times have students been admonished for arriving to class late because they had to stop by their lockers to get something for class? How many times have students been sent to the office because they were late to class too many times? How many times have students been sent to the office because they came to class ill-prepared? Yes, the students could just go to class first and ask their teacher if they could go to their locker or the bathroom, but not every teacher will say yes.…

Within the last month and a half, the words, ‘school shooting’ and ‘gun control’ has been on every citizen's tongue. Stoneman Douglas High School becomes the fifth largest school shooting in the US on February 14th, 2018. Debates about gun control and mental illness rage on, yet there is another issue that students have asked for that has been scarcely debated; whether In Loco Parentis should be banned from schools. In Loco Parentis translates “in places of the parents” and which gives the same legal rights for a teacher to be over the student, like a parent to a child. In Loco Parentis should not be banned from schools, leaving teachers as guardians of the student during school days.…

On august 1, 1966 Charles Whitman a military trained architectural student, at the university of texas went to the top of the tower at his campus with a head full of “depression and repressed violence” and an armful of weapons. 15 people died that day at the other side of whitman's gun. Seeing how some can misuse their weapons, even with extensive training, not everyone can be trusted to just carry them around especially reckless young adults. Although it is against the second amendment saying that you have the right to bear arms, Guns should not be permitted on college campuses due to the fact that some individuals are just unable to handle the responsibilities that come with weapons of that caliber, and having guns at school scares people away from an education. Being able to carry concealed weapons to school may throw safety…

Despite the bright and friendly visual effect of Fortnite, it still depicts bloody violence that some schools find it alarming to the extent of making this online game banned in their campus. During break time or between classes, kids tried to play and access this using school WiFi, which makes it hard for others to access or it makes the connection slower. Some say it is appropriate, especially coming from the parents since they want a complete learning environment for their kids. I would agree with them because I want my child to focus on studying alone and no distraction needed.…

Gun, it is one of the most hazardous object or material that any man kind could have ever created. Although law enforcement officers often use it to protect themselves from menacing suspect, gun should not be allowed in school to teachers nor students for any purposes or reasons because it is extremely dangerous. Allowed gun in school to teacher and students especially in a country where violence has become an epidemic could lead into a greater deal of fear to students and teachers just as it is to law enforcement officers in the street. As a survey was taking a few years ago in order to observe what students think about allowing gun to school, many students responded that they do not feel safe in school from gun, and violence. Moreover, they think it would be better for schools to hire more campus officers and securities rather than allowing gun to individuals such as teachers and students (Guns and School Safety Survey Results, 2013).…

The concrete permanence of guns when in the wrong hands is something that should not be taken lightly; nor should be a situation that involves children, being around firearms. Children are the foundation of our future society, to ensure that every child gets quality education is extremely high on the list of importance in education, a child’s safety and well being comes far before any academic achievement. Ensuring that the learning place is a safe haven for cognitive progression and development is essential to the learning process. To allow guns into this safe haven for progression within young children is an absolutely absurd concept to even being to attempt to wrap my head around. Unfortunately in Arizona private schools they are able to have guns on campus with proper regulations in place.…

I believe that if you struggle in school that shouldn’t have an effect on your future. If you put in time and effort and still struggle at something that doesn’t define who you are. If people knew who you were as a person and what you do they would know how you really are. Sometimes the person who struggles in school should understand that. You can still be very successful in life even if you struggled with school.…

Kansas State University is a gorgeous campus that is always up kept and pleasing to the eye. However, almost twice a week my fellow K-state students and I come in to very close range of a large gas lawnmower. During what I like to consider “rush hours” of students between the hours of 8am-5pm it is not uncommon to see the mowers out on the quad or another section of the campus. Personally, I suffer from severe seasonal allergies brought on by things such as pollen and grass.…

Although many CSU students bike to school, researchers at the CDC have demonstrated that dangerous motor vehicle traffic poses a significant deterrent for many to bike to school (Dellinger et al, 2002). The prevalence of biking injuries may be preventing a greater adoption of this method of transportation. Studies have verified that various factors increase the probability of bicycle accidents and the severity of their associated injury. Inclement weather, poor lighting, and vehicle speed have been found to drastically increase the number of bike injuries and the magnitude of their outcome (Kim et al, 2007). Other studies have outlined ways that cyclist put themselves at risk.…
