Bias Against Men In The Media

For this project i researched crime in the media, specifically how women are portrayed in that subject. What I found really surprising was the amount of bias against men in the media, regardless of the political leanings of the source or where it was written. Where men would get mug shots, women would get selfies, which, as a feminist, I found atrocious. This clear injustice against men is a clear example of the double standards in today’s society, with all the people claiming that women have it so hard and that “white cis male scum can get away with anything!”. But my research showed that it’s just the opposite. Men are so much more often on the receiving end of hate from the media, and are always played up as the big bad guy, while the woman …show more content…
In a day and age where equality is so highly conversed about, and where people are trying to be more accepting of races and sexualities, I find that those who aren’t in those “minorities” are receiving more hateful and bigoted comments than those in them. The amount of hate directed towards straight people, “cisgendered” people, those who are white, and especially men is terrible and hypocritical for those who spout that hateful speech at one rally and “equality now!” at the next. Especially with the result of the recent election, hate crimes against Republicans and white men have skyrocketed, with people being beaten half to death and getting away scot-free just because they live in a liberal area. As I, living in Maryland, live in such an intolerant society to the beliefs thought “radical” or “ignorant” by some, there is little I can do to stop the rampant sexism in the country that has just gone too far. All I can do is take a little solace in the knowledge that there are some living in a more accepting society than I and that they hopefully are working for
