Teresa had lived an almost fatal love life with Ed, the man she lived with prior to living with Mel. Mel believed, “Real love was nothing less than spiritual love.” Terri mentioned her prior life to Mel, where she revealed that the man loved her so dearly that he attempted to kill her. Terri said, “He beat me up one night. He dragged me around the living room by my ankles. He kept saying, ‘I love you, I love you, bitch.’ He went on dragging me around the living room. My head kept knocking on things”
(Carver, “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love”). Terri was in shock with the love the man had for her, but she physically and mentally did not know what to do with his fierce love. Terri serves as an example of women who live their lives with abusive and threatening men, but these women do not have the capacity to withstand the fear and allow the public to know about their abusive occuurences with the man. There is always support.
Women’s perspectives are often ignored and not prioritized. This is seen through the indicident with Ann, Evan Hamilton’s wife. Mr. Berman and Even Hamilton start a fight over their son’s
