Traditional primary care models in the U.S. allocate an average of 2.68 FTE per 1 physician FTE (Patel et al., 2013). However, Patel et al. (2013) recommend that to effectively implement PCMH, 4.25 FTE to be allocated per physician. After factoring in variability in staffing and compensation the additional FTEs would increase per member per month by $4.68.
