With a philosophy being “a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural and subject to experimentation” mine as a student a future nurse shall ever be changing (theory, 2016). As a current nursing student with a past experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) my personal philosophy stems from my personal experiences, conversations with those in the medical field and knowledge gained from being a student.
CNA Philosophical Contributions
Working as a CNA I have had experience volunteering in a hospital, working at a nursing home of Alzheimer’s patients and in home health care. Each experience can be generalized, but they all were different with various contributions to my current mindset of nurses’ roles.
Volunteering I saw CNAs doing respectable grunt work, doctors delegating care and Registered Nurses (RNs) being the ones able to actually assist in administering medications and having authority to make things happen. In the hospital setting it was the nurses who were directly in control with having to notice changes in patient vital changes and make risk assessments, they were directly responsible for the patients.
Nursing Home
Working at an Alzheimer’s home I saw a lack of care due to fellow CNAs not providing care to the extent they should, as they were swamped with assisting other residents and were not good at time management.
