Becoming More Globally Minded Through Service
In order to provide students with successful advancement opportunities past secondary education, educators must first provide them with service opportunities focused on global mindedness during the high school years. Attitudes towards others start in the classroom; it is here that students develop a sense of self and others. The International Baccalaureate Programmes focus on developing the mindset of students so that they are thinking on a more international scale. ¹ Rampart High School should focus on incorporating more globally minded volunteer opportunities in order to help develop student knowledge and awareness of other cultures, continue to grow the programme within the school, and support the programme mission statement.
Rampart High School located in Colorado Springs, Colorado actively participates in the International Baccalaureate by providing students the opportunity to participate in the Middle Years Programme (grades 9 and 10) and the Diploma Programme (grades 11 and 12). Students are not required to participate, but may elect to do so if they so shall wish. The International Baccalaureate is known as a rigorous program that allows students the opportunity to earn certificates and transcript lines through access to higher standards of curriculum through IB specific courses, participation in special projects, and volunteering (known as…
