Becoming A Nurse At Methodist Hospital Essay

It was the summer of 2009 that I realized that I wanted to become a nurse. I was swimming at a friend’s pool for their birthday. Her little brother didn’t know how to swim well and while trying to retrieve a toy in the deep end, he panicked and started to go under. I was the closest and was able to pull him up and get him out of the pool. We all stood around watching him trying to catch his breath and seeing how scared his parents were, it was a horrible experience. In that moment I knew in my heart, I was meant to do something with helping others. Ever since then my dream has been to become a nurse. Working with children has always interested me the most. I graduated high school a semester early because I was eager to start on my perquisites for nursing. I’ve watched my cousin Michelle graduate from nursing school and how hard she worked to become a Pediatric Nurse at Methodist Hospital. I have seen how dedicated she is with her patients and it inspires me to work hard and stay focused. It makes me excited in becoming a nurse by seeing how much she enjoys her job at the hospital.
In the spring of 2015 I began volunteering at Texas Children’s Hospital downtown and it’s the most rewarding feeling to be able to give a lending hand. I volunteer weekly in the emergency center checking in new patients and transporting them to their rooms. I interact with everyone that comes into the ER.
