Banksy was presumably born in Bristol, England around 1974. No one knows who he is or his real name. Banksy began his career in the early 1990’s with a graffiti gang known as the DryBreadZ crew. His is an admirer of 3D artist Blek Le Rat. Banksy stated "every time I think I've painted something slightly original, I find out that Blek Le Rat has done it as well, only twenty years earlier." Although they have never worked together, in 2011 Banksy had painted in the Mission District of San Francisco and Blek Le Rat apparently was seen adding to his mural. Banksy uses multi-layered stencils which are usually hand drawn or printed which he can then spray paint. Some graffiti artists think that using stencils is cheating. Artists use stencil graffiti for social or political statements because they are not usually in plain sight. This adds to the mystery and the game for the artist.
