What do you consider art? Someone sitting in front of a canvas with a paint brush painting whatever they imagine. Why don’t you consider graffiti as art when it is the same thing, except that the streets are your canvas and a can of spray paint is your paint brush? Graffiti should definitely be art because there are graffiti museums that sell pieces of graffiti for substantial amounts of money. Graffiti artists put just as much time and effort as a regular artist, and it can be seen by everyone with no price. Graffiti can be just as expensive and famous as classical art pieces that hang in a museum. Graffiti is just modern and up-to-date with this generation. One example that proves this point is, “Brad Pitt spent over 2 …show more content…
An example of this is,” Anyone can paint on the council-owned wall any time they like. Mike Crilley, the graffiti wall project organizer, promotes the positive side of graffiti and runs workshops for local children.” (Graffiti: Art or Vandalism). There is a wall meant for people to walk by and embrace the art, or even make some of their own, without breaking a law and just to make the city prettier. They are even teaching kids about it, just like how kids take art classes in school to learn about historical art. But, now it is to learn about our time of art. Another quote to prove that it is free to everyone is this quote, “I feel like a rebel but not by choice. I just want people to see my art free of cost…” (Wilde, Danielle). This is how a real graffiti artist feels and how all of them feel. They love their work and want to share it with everyone, not just the people that can afford a $15 ticket to spend a day in a museum. Finally, graffiti is considered art because it is on the street as stated in the quote, “People are used to seeing graffiti art in public spaces, after all, that 's what makes it graffiti.” (Sanchez, Noel). Graffiti is on the streets so it gives people all over a message, or even to put a smile on their face. The artist wants everyone to see it and enjoy it just by taking a …show more content…
One reason is that it is very expensive to remove proven by this point, “the cost for cleanup in the U.S. has not been documented definitively, but it is safe to assume that it is in the billions of dollars.”(Sanchez, Noel). These cities should not have to spend billions of dollars cleaning up graffiti, when they could be paying for better things for their community. Another reason graffiti is bad in cities is that it affects the property owners. For example, “but from the viewpoint of the property owner, it is a nuisance because they have to clean it up, whether it is a business or a residence, or even the city.” (Wilde, Danielle). Finally, graffiti isn’t usually the only illegal thing these artist do. They can be tied into other crimes such as, “Gang-related crimes and violence are the crimes most commonly associated with graffiti.”(Sanchez, Noel). Graffiti makes cities, homes, and businesses look cheap and it is not like they want that on their building it is illegal by state, so why would something that cost so much be considered
