This article is full of evidence-based research related to employment for individuals with autism spectrum disorders. To begin, it addresses both the personal and economic advantages of employment. Employment allows adults with disabilities to improve their quality of life, as they earn wages to support themselves and pursue their interests. Also, it has significantly lower cost impacts on the economy because of the utilization of resources. Next, it discusses the obstacles that often occur to prohibit successful employment. There is such a wide spectrum of need and ability within the population of individuals with disabilities, and this in itself presents a great challenge. Some of the specific problems include communication setbacks, social impairments, cognitive functioning issues, behavioral difficulties, and high levels of stress and anxiety. We felt that the strategies mentioned should be introduced to all companies and businesses to show them that accommodating these individuals with disabilities doesn’t have to be a difficult process.
