I desire to study athletic training, because I have a passion for sports along with caring for athletes. It was my freshman year that I choose to study this field. I didn’t know much about it when I began, but it was easy to gain a liking for the profession because it’s a career that deals with sports. Athletic training not only deals with sports and prevention of injuries, but they also care for the athletes and assist them with rehabilitation of their injuries. Athletic Training came into existence in the 19th century approximately when World War Two was happening. It was also created by the Romans and Greeks during the Olympics.
Over the past decade athletic training has grown. Athletic Trainers approximately held about 22,900 jobs in 2012. According to most industries that employed athletic trainers in 2012 were as listed: 25% worked in colleges, universities, and local/private institutions, 15% in offices of other health practitioners, and 13% hospitals; state, local, and private. Athletic trainers’ work settings can include high schools, colleges, universities, professional sports teams, hospitals, rehabilitation clinics, physicians’ offices, corporate and industrial institutions, the military, and the performing arts. Regardless of their practice setting, athletic trainers practice athletic training (or provide athletic training services) according to their education and state practice act.
