. The average American earns little over $65,000 dollars a year. A professional basketball player in the NBA will earn $5.15 million each year. A baseball player in the NLB will make $17.9 million in only five short years. These athletes spend their entire lives playing games because it is what they truly love to do. A professional football player makes 20.1 million dollars a year in the NFL versus a Radiologists paycheck, which is $315,000 a year (Youn). The average teacher makes almost $40,000 dollars a year while your average basketball player is raking in $1.9 million dollars yearly (Youn). Contracts and endorsements also add to the barbaric amount of money given to athletes. The NBA has receives $930 million dollars for broadcasting rights alone (Youn).
Endorsements help athletes get their name out as well as filling their pockets a little more heftily. The more popular of a player you are the more endorsements you’re going to be in. Every athletic shoe company out there wants the most popular players face slapped on their product, and they’re willing to pay for it! Lebron James signed a contract with Nike for a hefty sum of $90 million dollars over a span of seven years (Youn)!

Especially if your job is to tackle a man twice your size over thirty time in four hours. In the sports industry injuries are bound to happen, and they will. That’s why there are contracts for those who play, they’re going to get hurt and they know it. Honestly, if health insurance is denying men and women who play sports shouldn’t a sum of their money be saved to go towards injuries though? Shouldn’t that be included in their funding or their annual pay? Most of the time when an athlete is injured they sit on the bench, and although they may just be warming the seat for the other players they are still getting paid, it may not be as much as they regularly would, but there is money being given to
