Every year thousands of student athletes across America get full-ride scholarships to play collegiate level. Smith Davis in the article, “Should College Athletes Be Paid? Why They Already Are,’’ is right on target about not paying college athletes. College athletes get enough tuition and help from school they sign a contract with. It will cause problems for schools when it comes to paying each athlete. College is a place for people to obtain a degree and help them jumpstart their future career. Athletes are also getting their education paid for up to at least four years. College athletes get enough scholarships to pay off their education for up four years while attending the college in which they signed a contract with to be able to play collegiate level. If athletes need extra money to pay their expenses outside of school they can get a part-time job when their season isn’t going on. While college athletes make money for their universities, they are already getting paid in other words, money is already being handed to them. In Davis article, he informs the readers that, “Student athletes earn free tuition, which over the courses of 4 years can exceed $200,000.”(1). Meaning that athletes don’t have to worry about student loans, paying their textbooks, the cost of on-campus living, and meal plans. There are many problems behind that. Athletes are most likely to get their education paid for. They get enough money from scholarships as it is. Education always comes first, especially in college.
