My Dad played College basketball and he had a everyday job like everyone else and did not get payed. He had a scholarship and everything. He had to come back home because his mom had cancer and later died. He went back to college and still did not get payed and he is doing just fine right now so college athletes should not get paid. The college athletes that think that they should get paid are wrong. They should have to work for their money they should want it more. They should want to go pro and if they don’t then that is another reason that they should not get paid. Only 1 to 3 percent of college athletes go pro in any sport. Knowing that, that should make them want it more. If they don’t make it pro then they can just get a normal job like a lot of the other people. If they don't want that job then they can go to the D League or the level below so that they can work their way back up into the pros. If they are not able to do that then they don’t want it bad enough …show more content…
A school that does not have a lot of money is West Virginia. There are also a lot of schools that don’t have a mascot. If they don’t have a mascot than that normally means that they don’t have enough money. If a school like West Virginia don’t have enough money and if other schools started to pay their athletes then that would not be fair to all of the other schools then that would mean all of the top recruits would go to the school with the most money to go and get payed. If they schools don’t have enough money then they should stop giving out so many scholarships. About 46 billion dollars go into all of the scholarships every year yes that might seem like a lot of money just think about how many colleges there are in North America. When they give out the scholarships they have to think a head about all of the things that could go wrong or go right and if more things can go right then they will give them a

John R. Thelin, a professor at the University of Kentucky, wrote an article for Time.com titled “Here’s Why We Shouldn’t Pay College Athletes”. Throughout the article, Thelin refers to athletes strictly a part of college men’s football and basketball and explains why replacing a full-ride scholarship which amounts to 65,000 dollars with a 100,000-dollar salary does not make sense economically. Thelin also highlights the difference in state taxes which may make some colleges more appealing than others due to the benefits of keeping more of the theoretical 100,000-dollar salary. I believe that Thelin in his article is making a valid point that students should not be paid as employees of the university in which they attend, and that a 100,000-dollar scholarship should not replace a full-ride scholarship. However, in this article, Thelin is putting the readers under the impression that all college athletes are under full-ride scholarships.…

Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. As Rebecca Zissou states in the article, “Fair Play: Should College Athletes Get Paid?” "Many top players receive tuition, books, tutoring, housing, meals, clothing, elite coaching, medical care, travel expenses, and career counseling. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

Should NCAA athletes be paid by Alexis molina I fully think that NCAA athletes should be paid for their effort on their college team. College athletics have gained immense popularity among Americans over the past few decades. This has resulted into increased in a lot of money for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the participating colleges, which has sparked the debate of whether college athletes should be given money beyond their athletic scholarships but I think they should get paid for the following reason they should be paid because without the players that risk injuries on the team the association would not make the money they do now and their coaches get paid but why not them and most importantly students after…

College Athletes expect too much such as getting paid, but don’t actually focus on school. The athletes want money but if they were to get paid they wouldn’t show up to class and they would not know how to manage the money properly and not deal with the money in a childish type of way. The players want money but who is going to pay for everything else that they need to have? If they paid all of the athletes they would be paying a lot of money to all of those athletes.…

They probably won’t even be able to work anyway because they spend so much of their time focused on their sport. People say that athletes are not going to school for money their going for an education, but everyone that is going or ever went to college has gone to get a good job that pays a lot of money. People don’t just go to college just for the education and be done that would be a waste of time. Athletes sometimes don’t even have time for classes because they are so busy with their sport. “This involvement often conflicted with potential academic time: Afternoon practice conflicted with the required courses or labs in certain majors, games and road trips conflicted with the time athletes needed for exams and term papers, and booster functions cut into their discretionary time.…

Even though there are a majority of people with this movement, many argue that paying athletes is near impossible. There are opposing sides that claim colleges and smaller colleges could not afford to pay these athletes. It would be hard to imagine how these schools wouldn’t be able to pay these players. Karaim writes in his article about how the NCAA is a multibillion dollar industry. He claims that the NCAA should be able to afford and assist these colleges with the billions of dollars that they make every year (Karaim, 5).…

I think that college athletes should get paid because they are working hard by going to practice and learning new things to make them better and other people besides the college athletes are getting paid. The first reason why I think college athletes should get paid is because when they show up for practice they play hard to get better and win games and I think that If they get paid it will help them pay for the college there going to and make them want to keep playing the sport.…

Should college athletes be paid for playing? No, they should not because they are already getting scholarships, the colleges might not be able to afford to pay them, and because playing the sport is not a job. Athletes are already getting scholarships, do they really need or deserve to get paid as well? They only play for one season a year, but the scholarships help them all year round, so why do they deserve even more money during the season. Besides, they are not only getting to play a sport they probably really enjoy, but they also get to travel free around the country, be on TV regularly, and maybe even get looked at by professional sports teams.…
