College Athletes Should Not Be Paid Essay

Improved Essays
The NCAA should no longer be allowed to treat college athletes as unpaid employees. The NCAA should not be allowed to hoard all the money that comes from the hard work and dedication of its players. The task of paying college athletes is a hard one but it must be done. College athletes have a tremendous workload that even the most dedicated students would have a difficult time keeping up with. College athletes provide entertainment for their school and millions of other people, but they are still not getting paid for their extreme work ethic, their commitment to their sport or school and most importantly, because of the amount of money they help the school to make. The NCAA makes billions of dollars each year because of the ability of their players to entertain a crowd. Even with all of this money coming in they still don’t have to pay their players. So essentially they have built a business system that generates billions each year off of the hard work of these players and they don’t have to pay them for it.

All college’s pay each of their other workers, so why shouldn’t athletes receive the same benefits? And if not then they should surely be able to get their own jobs and even make money off of their status as they clearly worked hard to earn it. Saying that money could not be dispersed reasonably is truly an inadequate excuse as there are plenty of ways to dish out the revenue at a reasonable rate, comparable to other student workers. The NCAA is a professional business and the players should be paid like one. These athletes are not only students, but are a necessity to advertising their respective universities. The NCAA runs a messed up system that needs to be corrected so theirs players have a better chance for success during and the time after

Some may agree, and most of them make a compelling point as to why they shouldn’t. Some of these points are because the athletes get paid already in scholarships and specific aids. " What she fails to mention is that most of these things that the athletes receive only cover a small portion of the actual whole cost of living and learning, and being sheltered, and traveling; the list could go on.…

Unfortunately what critics lack to admit is that normal student’s face these same issues, being involved in on campus clubs and other ordeals those normal students face no one truly has a lot of time to get a job.
