For Every physical activity, the body requires energy and the amount depends on the duration and type of activity, with glycogen being the main source of fuel used by the muscles to enable an athlete to undertake both aerobic and anaerobic exercise. To support an athletes training sessions or at the final circle ball festival, they need to eat an appropriate time so that all the food has been absorbed and the athletes’ glycogen stores are fully replenished. Mackenzie (1997) states that following training and competing, an athletes glycogen stores are depleted. In order to replenish them the athlete needs to consider the speed at which carbohydrate is converted into blood glucose and transported to the muscles, the rapid replenishment of glycogen stores is important for a circle ball defender as they will have a number of games throughout the festival. …show more content…
Once the athlete has a good balanced diet it should provide them with the required nutrients but the coach does need to still monitor this, the best way of doing this is checking their athletes’ weight. Within the training diet the coach needs to make sure the athlete is eating three main meals and two to three snacks each day with every meal containing both carbohydrates and protein, with having the athlete also eating at least 5 pieces of fruit per day and drinking skimmed milk as it contains protein and provides critical minerals such as, calcium and
