Listening: Listening to employees’ problems and taking action regarding those problems make employees feel engaged in the decision making process. This increases their productivity and therefore leads the company to prosper. Besides, listening to customers concerns and complaints, and trying to find solutions for them, increases their trust in the organization and in its management. Listening is the key to effective communication, without it communication fails.
Example: An employee who has complaints about being overloaded at work and that he needs assistance with the tasks he carry. A good manager listens to what this employee has to say and communicates back to him. This will let the employee feel his worth in the organization.

Being assertive means the employee knows his own worth and has the self confidence to ask for his right. Usually assertive situations are win - win situations.
Example: When a manager assigns too many tasks to an employee on Friday afternoon. This employee would definitely not be able to finish those tasks at the same day. Therefore, the employee can tell the manager that those tasks would be all finished by Monday afternoon. In this way the employee was aware about his rights and at the same time, he did not reject a task assigned by his superior.
