IDP is an intern development program that you are required to complete as an architectural student certified by the NCARB’s 54 U.S. It has been developed into the (AXP) which is the Architectural Experience Program. Through this program you will need to learn daily realities of the architectural practice, acquire comprehensive experience in basic practice areas, explore specialized areas of practice, develop professional judgment, and refine your career goals. The AXP is developed and administered by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). In order for initial registration you must be completed with your AXP which would help prepare students to practice architecture

The breakdown of these hours would be practice management 160 hours, project management 360 hours, programming and analysis 260 hours, project planning and design 1080 hours, project development and documentation 1520 hours and construction and evaluation 360 hours. Half of these hours must be completed under a licensed qualified architect; and the rest can be completed outside the employment of an architect. Some experienced design professionals are eligible to complete the AXP by demonstrating competent performance through an AXP portfolio. This new method is intended for individuals who put their licensure on hold and allow you to demonstrate your experience through the preparation of online portfolio. You must also be familiar with the (ARE) which is the Architect Registration Examination it assesses candidates for their knowledge, skills and ability to provide various services required in the practice of architecture. ARE has also been adopted by use of 54 U.S. Member Boards and Canadian provincial and territorial architectural association as a registration examination required to be a registered architect.
