Unfortunately, many companies ignore the idea of treating women with the same respect as men. Just because women may get paid less for doing the same job, it doesn’t mean that the law pertains more to men than it does to women. The truth is, the law is the law. According to the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, not only are pregnant women protected with regard to hiring and rehiring, but also when it comes to the workload as well (“Know Your Rights: The Pregnancy Discrimination Act,” 2015). If, for example, I was a manager to a small company and knew that one of my employees were pregnant, I must provide my pregnant employees with work they could handle. What actually makes something an undue burden is when the women have limited choices towards seeking an abortion and cannot abort the fetus after the 2nd or 3rd trimester.
