The culture of an aging services organization has an imperative influence on the employees and the residents. With a positive attitude, an organization can productively fulfill all of the needs of the organization. Also, a constructive culture will allow both the leadership and the employees to enjoy working with each other and respect one another. According to David Sirota, Louis A. Mischkind, and Michael Irwin Meltzer (2005) authors of The Enthusiastic Employee, “employees seek to satisfy three needs – equity, achievement and camaraderie – in any employment situation” (3). The management may not hear the complaints and concerns of the staff members, which may cause a level of resentment directed at the manager. Additionally, employees may not get along with colleagues or with the manager, which creates a toxic work environment and culture within an aging services facility. A negative cultural atmosphere will ultimately cause detrimental effects for the residents, which the organization serves. This will not give the elderly people a positive and successful aging experience, which is a result of an adverse culture and environment. Therefore, an executive is respectful of employee’s values and trusts in their job competency. A manager’s role, in creating a positive culture, can positively affect the staff and their productivity level as well as their enthusiasm for their positions. In order for an aging organization to provide successful services, it must keep up with the technology and methods of production that is constantly changing. Therefore, changes implemented in small increments, provided with proper extensive training, allow staff members to receive the modifications efficiently. Additionally, an atmosphere of learning would create opportunities for employees to expand their horizons and diminish any stagnation in their positions. This can ultimately help an organization reach their goals in an efficient manner. Furthermore, diversity in an aging environment builds an innovative culture in the organization. Peter Fragale, author of “Caring for the Melting Pot,” discusses the importance of diversity among the staff in order to connect with the ever-growing elderly population who needs aging services (2010). A manager acknowledges the diversity among the staff as well as the residents, which helps create an accepting place to work in and reside in. An innovative culture instills the importance of technology and diversity in an aging services environment.
