Changes in the workplace that are likely to occur as the population ages, is the likelihood to see more older workers. There are many reasons to have the older generation working for your company, because they have a different idealistic view on the way things work. Where this isn’t ideal for everyone, because they have a negative view of older workers, there are many positives to having older workers on your team. A change that is likely to occur is a better safety rating. Older workers have a higher respect for rules and regulations in regard to safety and communication. Another change may be older workers may require less training, due to experience or higher education. Negatives of having older workers may include, more severe injuries. They may be hurt less due to their respect for safety, but if they do get hurt, it is possible for it to be more severe because of their age and the way the body heals in older adults. Another negative side of having age diversity in the workplace is the challenge between a younger manager and an older worker. From the perspective of older manager to younger employee; the younger employee may feel as if they are being singled out as the young kid or the unexperienced worker. They may also feel as though they aren’t able to keep up with the high standards of what an older work force may set and expect. From the perspective of younger manager to older employee; the older employee may feel as though the younger work force is out to get him because his boss is younger than him. The older worker may feel his work ethics and ideas are the way things should be and with the changing work force, adaptation may be a bit of a challenge. This is where they will need to work with the younger manager and their co-workers to become more open. Even with the challenges that may come for managers, I also think that there will be such a diversity of age, it will be less noticeable than people may think. The challenges that I expect to be the most profound is for younger managers to work well with their older employees without
