When an individual listens and takes quality notes they retain the information being presented a lot better than if the person did not take notes or listen to what was being lectured. When a student pays attention to detail in a lecture and records quality, organized, and precise notes the student has a better understanding of the subject being taught. The disadvantages are that the student may not be able to hear the changes in major points into facts. These are the five note taking systems that are commonly used today, According to Rasmussen College there are three different steps to writing better notes. The first step is to observe and adapt to what direction the lecture goes. The second is to record and make brief notes on a different page for each new lecture. The third and final note-taking tip from Rasmussen College is to review, always make sure to review the notes within the twenty-four-hour window and edit words and phrases that are illegible in a different color pen.
