Adjustment of Popular Teens in Emerging Adulthood is an article written by Marlene J. Sandstorm and N.H. Antonius Cillessen. The article was published in October of 2010 and the article discusses life after high school for the students who were considered popular. The project discusses perceived popularity and relational aggression. The relational aggression was made up of 264 students from 9-12 grade in high school, these students were also considered to be attending a middle-lower class high school and living a middle-lower class lifestyle. The data for the article was collected by three yearly self reports by the popular students in high school after graduation, on the reports there was assessments for depression, psychopathology, victimization in the workplace, and behaviors that could be considered risky. Throughout this article, the authors discuss intimately a positive correlation between popularity in high school students and risk behavior from the transition to adulthood. The study branches into three important ideas. The first idea mentioned is, the highlighting of peer acceptance for the popular crowd rather than focusing on peer rejection. This idea is mainly about students and the chronic struggle to civilize with their classmates and the negative consequences of this. The second idea is, perceived popularity and the benefits that may come with it. This idea is about students being able to relate to another making them popular and the benefits that may arise with it. Finally, the correlation of popularity to the study of relational aggression.
