Reflection Paper On English Composition

Throughout English Composition 1, I have learned several crucial writing skills. Writing skills that will benefit me in other classes, outside of school, and during my future college years. Not only will these benefit my overall writing and making it flow better, it will all in all make more sense to the readers. Even though I learned many skills and objectives during this semester, four skills really stood out to me. Cohesion, comma usage, the use of satire, and how to write a definitional essay. English Composition. has been a very helpful class and and will not only help me while I am still in high school, but as I move onto college. These are very important to know how to write properly because many teachers have asked us to write these types of essays and I never really understood what I was doing until we learned the key components in English Comp. We had to write a definitional essay about a topic of our choice. I chose popularity. I believe popularity is a big problem around here and it plays a big role in school. My introduction was my definition of popularity, “Some may ask what popularity is. Let me tell you. Some people imagine girls walking around with their boyfriends and their expensive clothes with their makeup done better than I could ever imagine possible for myself. Some people imagine the students that are involved in every extracurricular possible, the straight A students, and the athletes. Listen to me. Popularity is walking down the hallway with so many people; taking up the whole hallway and making other people wait to the side because they are intimidated” (Nohai 1). This type of writing gives you an opportunity to express your opinion and show your personal relation to your topic. Showing your opinion is important during writing because it lets your classmates learn a lot about
