With the passing of the time, an estimated range of 200,000 to 1.2 million women died per year because of illegal abortion just in the United States (Grimes A, 2015). It is a fact that women are jeopardizing their own body and health while trying to end unwanted pregnancies by inducing or looking for dangerous procedures that harmfully affect their bodies (World Health Organization, 2014). Doctor Doh Bit defines abortion as the expulsion of the embryo which simply refers to the termination of the pregnancy; it can be spontaneous or induced. (Dr Doh Bit, 2007). According to Frohwirth & Dauphinee, just a small proportion of women are seeking abortion because of health concerns or fetal anomalies. Conversely, the majority choose this procedure as a solution for unintended pregnancy. Ann M. Moore explains that the phrase “unintended pregnancy” does not completely represent what real factors lead women to choose to abort, such as familial, economic and social issues (Moore, 2004).

As a consequence, the pro-choice scientists are wondering when and who should be allowed to abort under what circumstances and parameters with the only purpose of giving everybody a chance to make decisions about their own body.
