Abortion “is the medical process of ending a pregnancy so it does not result in the birth of a baby.” This can also be known as termination. Throughout this assessment I will discuss the issue of abortion in the religion of christianity. Abortion in christianity is considered morally wrong because it means that a new life is formed in the womb created by god therefore abortion is wrong.

Abortion became legal in the US because the Supreme Court made the decision that the right to abortion was dependant on a woman's right to privacy. Federal law has defended this right since the US Supreme Court’s Roe v Wade decision. Abortion in the USA is authorized today but may be restricted by most states according to american pregnancy association. The decision of terminating the baby in some of the states is restricted but is dependant on whether the mother's life is in danger hence will undergo the abortion. But in the states that sanction abortion, the duration of of the time of pregnancy to undergo an abortion is generally 24 weeks, if it goes any further than this the abortion cannot take place. There are at least 24 states that require the procedure to be performed based on a specific time of the pregnancy. 16 states in the US where women today cannot have a partial birth abortion which are as follows, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, and Virginia. As mentioned in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, it is apparent that the human life is sacred and that the human life begins at the moment of conception therefore the church sees abortion as a wrong deed because it eliminates an unborn like hence it will always be considered wrong, sinful and morally wrong. Not only is the Catholic Church opposing abortion but also other areas that involve the human life “Furthermore, whatever is opposed to life itself, such as any type of murder, genocide, abortion, euthanasia or willful self-destruction,...They poison human society, but they do more harm to those who practice them than those who suffer from the injury. Moreover, they are a supreme dishonor to the Creator.” They consider all life to be equal and valuable thus the catholic church can be considered to have a pro life

While the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade legalized abortion at the federal level, it was up to the states to regulate the practice on how they see fit. Through the mid-1960s, 44 states outlawed abortion in nearly all situations that did not threaten the life or health of the mother. Today, it is legal in all 50 states, life-threating or by choice. Many States have made it nearly impossible to access abortion services, while other states have legislated just a few restrictions and rules. In the state of Illinois, the state allows qualified non-physicians to prescribe drugs for medical abortions only which is only done by seven other states.…

Abortion is defined as a deliberate termination of human pregnancy and was brought to attention in the Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade. This case ruled out that it is legal to have an abortion under the Fourteenth amendment of the Constitution. Even though abortion is legal in the US, individual states regulate or limit the use of abortion. Due to abortion not being an enumerated power, it should be up to states to discuss it. Having states control abortion allows women to go from a state that doesn't allow it to a different state that allows the abortion.…

In my own life experience and confession, I have had difficult moral issues concerning abortion or the right of a woman to choose. The Scripture does not take a position on abortion, but God commands us not to kill. More importantly as a practicing Catholic, our teaching is against abortion as well as all forms of contraceptives. Also, moral issue of concern to me is who to believe and what to believe. The Divine Command Theory suggests that God commands what is right and wrong.…

In fact, biblical passages address a myriad of human situations in moral context, but not the controversial topic of abortion. Much of Christianity’s modern beliefs on abortion come from different interpretations of passages that were not originally intended to apply to the practice of abortion. Under Roman Law, abortion was permitted. It wasn’t until recently that the majority of Christian denominations have set strict guidelines against the practice. This section will address both cases of abortion in Christianity, however, the pro-life position is favored in modern day society.…

There has been a long existing debate of “Pro-Life” versus “Pro-Choice” about whether or not women should be able to abort a child. Many people being Pro-Choice will use the argument that the fetus isn 't a living person, and rather that it is the woman’s body; therefore the woman’s choice. There are other options women have such as adoption: waiting until the baby is born and providing the child a well-suited family to properly care for them. I believe any way you can avoid aborting a child is better than abortion because you give the child a chance for life. An unborn child in the womb contains all of the characteristics for it to be considered living, proving abortion is morally and scientifically wrong.…

Since 1760 BC, abortions have been sought-out internationally. There are a variety of reasons for them: because sexually abused women do not desire for guardianship of the child, females do not want their body to be unfit because of pregnancy, or it was a careless mistake that could have been prevented with birth control or any other prevention method. Many women have nonessential abortions. One quintessential example of this is in China; they kill fetuses if the sonogram proves the unborn child to be female. Abortions should be illegal because it is unjust and purposeless slaughter to the unborn human being.…

I personally follow Catholicism which is strongly against abortion no matter the circumstance. The Catholic church says "human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception,” which is when the sperm and the egg meet to creating life. We do not have the capacity to choose life or death for a defenseless fetus. Pope John Paul II teaches that “life is always good”, and God in creating man “in the image and likeness of God.” A human being a limited but true mirror of God’s glory, has a sublime dignity and his life is held to be inviolable.…

Abortion has been around for quit sometime now, and its support is only getting stronger. Advocates of abortion emphasize one’s ability to have the choice of whether that person wants to keep the baby or not. They believe that the person that was conceived is technically not a human being yet, and is a person once the mother has given birth to the child. Because they believe that the person they are aborting is not a human, it is then okay to end its life. They make arguments such as having the option of abortion will help victims of rape, incest, or if the person is just not ready to have a child.…
