A Bloody Sunday in Brentwood
Introduction
“Stalking is a pattern of repeated and unwanted attention, harassment, contact, or any other course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to feel fear” (DOJ, 2016). One in every sixteen women experience being stalked at one point in their lives, which is equivalent to 16.2% of women in the nation (NIJ, 2012). Many of the women being stalked are usually by an ex-partner of some sort, me get stocked also but not nearly as much as women. Stalking is usually accompanied with sexually violence or domestic violence due to the emotions involved with the perpetrator.

California Stalking Laws state that a stalker can face imprisonment, a fine of $1,000, or both. If a stalker violates a restraining order imprisonment for 2, 3, or 5 years. If the stalker is already a felon and violates they can face 2, 3, or 5 year’s imprisonment. If they are honored probation they are required counseling and attend rehabilitation programs (Stalking Resource Center, 2015). A judicial officer may order a protective order for the victim with specific details of the order. The law also states that it is illegal for the protected person’s information to be obtained for the stalker. The victim will be notified 15 days prior to the release of the perpetrator.
