On September 11,2001 four airplanes were hijacked by members of a terrorist group named Al-Qaeda; the leader the infamous Osama bin laden. Two of the four airplanes crashed into the world trade center, striking the north and south tower. The third striking hit the pentagon, and the fourth crashed in Pennsylvania. 9/11 was the worst terrorist attack that ever happened in the united states. Of all the striking’s, the most well-known striking’s were the twin towers. The 9/11 attack affected American society in that, people involved in the event struggle with mental and physical health problems, society’s discrimination toward Muslims, and limitations on education about the 9/11 attack.
One of the major effects 9/11 had on society is the discrimination toward Muslims. Muslims whether it be teens, kids, or adults get harassed and bullied often because of their faith and culture. Most of the society can’t get past the act of terrorism Al-Qaeda has done. Many have a mindset that every person that looks or sounds like them must be terrorists; that they are dangerous, remorseless people. There are videos that show men and women dressed as a Muslims would or of their culture, and they would ask people if someone could hold their bag or purse and people would say no and add negative comments. Also, discrimination doesn’t just happen in public, it happens in schools very often, and sometimes absolutely nothing is done about it. “When Lalla said she didn 't think that [bulling towards her] was fair, her teacher responded that Lalla 's people had caused a lot of problems in the world, and she should understand if people were frustrated with her” (Jandali). Even teachers let their own thoughts and opinions get in the way of their jobs. Muslim student shouldn’t get bullied or harassed for their faith. No student for that matter should feel like they have to go to a higher authority to seek help with situations that needs a stop to it. Teachers, students, and society that have negative thoughts or feelings toward other human beings of other faith, culture, or race are most likely to cause a problem or ignore the problem because they think they deserve it. Another major effect is that the rescuers have physical and mental health problems. “The prevalence of severe cough and bronchial hyperreactivity was related to the intensity of exposure at the WTC site” (Crane). Firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians and other rescue teams that were on the scene are suffering from respiratory illnesses, because of the amount of dust and debris that they have inhaled. Years later people are still struggling with health issues such as asthma, rhinosinusitis. Not only did the collapse of the trade center affect the rescue …show more content…
Although 9/11 was tragic because of the amount of people that lost their lives ,9/11 may be a good thing just as well a bad thing. It’s a good thing in that at least now we know that we need more security and take more precautions and, and it’s a bad thing in that it caused many negative feelings and negative physical effects. None the less 9/11 was and is very impactful all over the world. Now more than
