Globalization, migration and the uncertain future of the international refugee regime Jeff Crisp In our world, we can find more than 10 million people who, when asked where home is, can only respond that they are stateless. This large cluster of stateless people live and reside in lands where they do not have legal membership, given by the state to them. Due to this lack of membership within a state that an individual is occupying, they lose the legal rights they would have if they were members of that said state.Some of these rights include protection, protection from prosecution, and all together a sense of support. More importantly this article focuses on the lack of judicial policies and laws in relation to stateless persons nor does the author of this article believe that there has been enough substantial academic work presented in relation to the sad subject. The author remarks that there have been a handful of situations that juridically faced inherent problems. Focusing in on the way stateless people are treated, the author remarks that there have been said cases where an entire ethnic group has been stripped of their nationality by their own country or state. In due process , the author proposes that when a state proposes certain laws into action that provide an environment where statelessness could occur, then it is enough to assign asylum to said individuals.
