    On November 23, 1804 in Hillsborough, New Hampshire, young Franklin Pierce was born. Franklin Pierce was one out of eight children born under the roof of Benjamin and Anna Kendrick Pierce. When Franklin was 30 he married Jane Means Appleton, they later had three kids which all died in various ways. Their first child died two days after being born, and their second child died at age four of epidemic typhus. The last son they had was beheaded in a train accident in front of Pierce, leaving him devastated, and depressed. Attending Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, Pierce excelled in public speaking as well as academics. When he graduated in 1824, he was the top three students of his class.
