    continue fighting for liberty and saving our country. If you die, it would be for a good cause. I have decided to not re-enlist for three reasons which are starvation, bad weather, and sickness. These reasons have made me decide to not re-enlist. “Naked and starving as they are, we cannot enough admire the incomparable patience and fidelity of the soldiery”-Governor George Clinton. The first reason I will not re-enlist is because of the inadequate supply of meat and bread. Many soldiers received their only nourishment from “firecakes” a bland mixture of flour and water. One of the causes for the malnutrition was due partly to the location of their camp. Valley Forge’s natural defenses made it challenging to transfer supplies there; the Schuylkill River was covered with ice for most of the winter and the roads were so treacherous that the Continental Congress could not pay teamsters enough to carry wagons of supplies to Valley Forge. (Diary of Dr. Albigence Waldo) The second reason I will not re-enlist is because of the cold weather. Since the climate was cold and soldiers were not properly clothed, fed, or sheltered they didn't have the strength and the right conditions to fight. The main source of heat was only one campfire, which didn’t keep the soldiers very warm. They also shared one blanket to 7 men. Since it was so cold and the soldiers were barefoot, they easily got frostbite. The soldiers lost their body parts including: fingers, toes, and part of their leg. I…
